This region is home to the Samburu people and the Samburu Special Safari Five animals that can only be found North of the Equator. Samburu people have a rich heritage just like their cousins; the Maasai’s. They adorn in colourful clothing and the young men dye their hair red coupled with some braids. This is a “not to miss” part in any of the best Kenya Safari.  The Samburu people gives one a colorful cultural experience.

The Samburu Special Safari animals are;

1. Gravy’s zebra  – The uncommon zebra has huge fury ears.
2. Gerenuk – which is a big gazelle like looking antelope standing on hind legs to feed.
3. Somali Ostriches –  the rare ostriches with distinct blue legs.
4. Reticulated giraffe – The most beautiful of all girraffes with rectangular shapes.
5. Beisa Oryx.

Day 1: Nairobi to Samburu Game Reserve

You will be picked up from Nairobi at 0700hrs after a short briefing by Abana Safaris representative. Afterwards you will board your vans and head north via the shoulder of Africa’s second largest mountain, Mount Kenya, making your way to the Samburu Game Reserve. You will arrive in time for lunch. After lunch, you will check in to your camp rest and freshen-up for a while as you get ready to explore the wilderness of Samburu. Proceed for an early-evening game drive. Animals expected to be seen here include the elephants, lions, leopards and the Samburu Special Five. The reserve is also excellent for bird watching, with over 365 species, including varieties of weaverbirds and the martial eagle. Leopard sightings are also a special feature here. Dinner and overnight at the lodge/ Camp

Day 2: Samburu Game Reserve

This day is spent viewing game in Samburu Reserve, Buffalo Springs National Reserve and exploring the open grasslands and diverse landscapes in search of the variety of wildlife found here. Samburu hosts beautiful forests, springs and rivers, offering stunning scenery. The game park is part of a lava plain that includes varied habitats, from thorn scrub, red dirt and dried river beds, to broken volcanic rock, steep hills and rocky outcrops. Dinner and overnight at the Lodge / Camp.

Day 3: Nairobi

After breakfast you will say your good bye as you depart your way out of Samburu National  Reserve and drive back to Nairobi with lunch en-route.
