The best of Kenyan Safari in 11 days

A truly Kenyan Safari really African featuring Mount Kenya the home of Actor William Holden and the tree hotel Mountain Lodge all the way to the naturally landscaped Samburu National Park proceeding to L. Nakuru National Park famed for flamingos and the large population of Rhinos and crowning everything with a visit to Masai Mara National Reserve. 

Day 1 – Arrival Nairobi

Arrival to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi. Meet and assist to the transfer to the elegant Nairobi Safari Club or other similar hotel for Overnight.

Day 2 – Mountain Lodge – Mt. Kenya

After breakfast we begin our safari the best of Kenyan Safari in 11 days. Drive North through agricultural farmlands to the famed Mountain Lodge, one of three “tree hotels” in Kenya and arguably one of the best. Each room in this largest wooden storey building has a balcony overlooking a saltlick and waterhole from where you can enjoy the finest game viewing on the slopes of Mt. Kenya.  Overnight at MOUNTAIN LODGE (B, L, D)

Day 3 +4 – Samburu Buffalo Springs / Samburu National Park

After a hearty breakfast we travel North as we head for the northern frontier district, Samburu/Buffalo Springs Reserve. Game viewing  is excellent here.  Some species here cannot be found anywhere else. Examples of the beautiful gerenuk and reticulated giraffe. This is an excellent location to see the “BIG FIVE”. Samburu’s, the cousins of the Maasais, harmoniously live with animals in this semi-arid region. You will interact with them in various aspects, including a visit to their homesteads. Day 5 – Sweetwater’s Sanctuary – Ol Pejeta Ranch

Sweetwater’s lies in the heart of the privately owned 24,000-acre Sweetwater’s Game Sanctuary, enjoying magnificent views across to the snow-capped Mount Kenya . Accommodation is provided in luxuriously appointed tents, set under thatch, with en-suite facilities and private verandah. Each tent overlooks the waterhole. Day and night game drives in four-wheel-drive vehicles, walking safaris escorted by a knowledgeable ranger, bird walks, camel safaris and outdoor dining ensure there is always plenty to do. Day 6 – Mt. Kenya Safari Club

This resort, set exactly on the Equator, was a dream brought to life by the late actor William Holden. It hosts royalty, heads of state, celebrities (including Stephanie Powers , star of the 1980s hit TV series Hart to Hart, a frequent visitor deeply involved in the animal orphanage) and offers all one expects in a luxury resort and more. Day 7 – L. Nakuru National Park

Today we descend into the Great Rift Valley on our way to the world famous bird sanctuary. Lake Nakuru is known for its huge flocks of flamingos and pelicans. Its multifaceted shores and surrounding woodlands are also home to some 400 species of birds, including during the northern winter, many migratory European species. Lake Nakuru is also home to leopard, rhino and Rothschild’s giraffe and other game.

Day 8 +9 +10 – Masai Mara National Reserve

This morning we bid farewell to Lake Nakuru and take an afternoon flight to the Masai Mara. Masai Mara is the destination of millions of grazing animals traveling North from Serengeti. It is Kenya ‘s most renowned wildlife sanctuary. Your home for the next three nights will be the beautiful Mara Serena Lodge. This beautiful lodge, set atop a hill overlooking Mara plains, offers an excellent vantage point for game viewing and spectacular sunsets. While in the Mara you can also indulge yourself in an optional hot-air balloon excursion. You will never forget the experience! MARA SERENA (B, L, D)

Day 11 – Nairobi – Departure

One last morning game run, etching Mara scenes in your memory, breakfast, and, though difficult, it’s time to meet our plane. The flight back is as beautiful as was the incoming one. We land at Wilson Airport where we meet our drivers and are transported back to Nairobi Safari Club, where day rooms are provided for your comfort. The rest of the day is spent on leisure. You may want to sit and relax or do some last-minute shopping. Tonight we meet once again, for a farewell dinner at the Carnivore Restaurant before you depart for your flight home.
