After a briefing by a Abana representative you will drive north to Samburu passing through Nyeri on to Nanyuki, Isiolo and arrive at the Samburu/Sarova Shaba Lodge for lunch. Tall acacias fringing the Ewaso Nyiro River shade the lodge a cool oasis in the desert surroundings. Arid, rugged and savagely beautiful, the area is protected as Shaba National Reserve, the Samburu National Reserve and the Buffalo Springs National Reserve, together covering an area of about 300 square kilometers. With less than 300mm of rain a year the wildlife depends for its very existence on the Ewaso Nyiro River, whose headwaters rise in the Aberdare Mountains, about 300Kms away. The area is noted for several wildlife species not found in other Kenya parks lying south of the equator, the most striking of which include the reticulated giraffe, Gravy’s zebra, gerenuk and Beisa oryx. Bird life is particularly abundant in this region with more than 400 species being recorded. Samburu people “cousins to the Maasai” have adapted to live harmoniously with the wildlife. They share much in common with Maasai, including their language, Maa, their dress and most particularly their love of cattle. Early afternoon will be spent at leisure at the lodge’s swimming pool. Late afternoon you will embark on a game drive in search for animals. At around 6.30pm return to the lodge for dinner and overnight at the………Samburu /Shaba Lodge
After a hefty breakfast you will embark on a morning game drive. This time you will drive to Buffalo Springs National Park Reserve that enables you to witness the coolness of nature with its waterholes and plenty of game. After lunch, early afternoon at leisure and at 3.30pm you will have a visit to a nearby Samburu village to meet the local community and learn about their culture and way of life. Thereafter you will proceed on a game drive in search of animals not seen so far. Dinner and overnight at… Samburu /Shaba Lodge
